Bass Guitar Lessons

Alongside Classical, Acoustic and Electric Guitar, I also teach Bass lessons to various pupils of different ages and abilities.

Although bass players are a rarer breed than guitarists, it is just as fun and rewarding. You can get just as deep into the music theory side of things as with the guitar, if you so wish. You can choose an academic route and pursue Grade 1-8  and beyond, or simply learn bass riffs and songs from your favourite artists.

There are many bands without a guitarist, drummer or singer, but it is rare to find a band without a bassist.

App of the week: #3 - Music Memos

I'm going to be recommending a different app every week which I've found helpful in my life as an instrumental teacher, producer and/or musician in general.

Last week Apple launched a major update to GarageBand for iOS but also this new app "Music Memos". Basically it is a more musician friendly alternative to the app "Voice Memos" which allows the user to make audio notes in a quick and easy way from their phone or tablet.

More than that though, it could be seen as a useful new tool for musical composition. Recording begins by pressing record on the simple user interface, although in Auto mode the recording begins as soon as you start making a noise - singing or playing guitar for example. Once you have finished your recording, the software automatically splits your work into bars, beats and measures and detects the key and chords of your work. If this is not exact then you can go in and edit individual chords and trim the edges for a precise loop, if needed.

Lately, I'm getting more and more pupil enquiries for lessons via video-conferencing. The three most popular being FaceTime, Skype and Google Hangouts.

It's easy to see why as then you can study from home with all your usual comforts, there are no travel costs, lesson times can be flexible and it's a simple as switching on your iPad or laptop and making a call. The quality, content and pricing structure of my online lessons are exactly the same as my private lessons.
