Grade 5 Music Theory
A longstanding ABRSM criteria is that a pass at Grade 5 or above in Music Theory must be obtained before candidates can enter for Grades 6, 7 or 8 Instrument exams.
From my experience, although we instrument tutors do try to include as much theory as we can in an average lesson, extra specific Theory tuition is sometimes needed. I have fast-tracked many children and adults from Grade 1 to Grade 5 Theory so I thought I would dedicate a page to this common request.
More generally I believe that all musicians should have some grasp on music theory, whether it be chords and keys for a pop/rock musician or more of a classical approach. I try to incorporate as much of this broad subject into any lesson I teach.
